VisualCoder - PI

Simplify repetitive microscope workflows, increase efficiency, and support rapid development of custom SEM and FIB-SEM imaging, milling, and nanopatterning strategies to accelerate method development. FIB-SEM Expert PI™ enables advanced and custom automation through a microscope-control API accessible via Python, while VisualCoder™ offers a block-based route to workflow creation without coding.

Automate routine workflows. Prototype new methods. Expand what your microscope can do.

FIB-SEM Expert PI™ is an API for controlling Tescan SEM and FIB-SEM microscopes through Python. It supports development of custom SEM and FIB imaging, milling, and nanopatterning workflows, helping users automate daily tasks and integrate microscope operation into remotely controlled processes.

FIB-SEM Expert PI™ includes the Tescan Automation SDK - a development kit with Python libraries, SharkSEM client libraries, documentation, and examples for building custom SEM and FIB-SEM workflows. VisualCoder™ provides a complementary, block-based way to create workflows without writing code and can export projects as Python scripts.

VisualCoder™ provides a no-code, block-based way to build workflows using capabilities enabled by FIB-SEM Expert PI™. Users can assemble routines from functional blocks and export them as Python scripts for further refinement, without needing prior coding knowledge or API documentation.

Together, FIB-SEM Expert PI™ and VisualCoder™ help laboratories improve repeatability, reduce manual interaction, speed up repetitive workflows, and open new possibilities for custom SEM and FIB-SEM method development.

Key benefits

  • Automated SEM and FIB-SEM workflows for controlled, reproducible imaging, inspection, QA, and sample processing tasks

  • No-code recipe development using VisualCoder’s intuitive block-programming environment
  • Custom SEM and FIB routines for specialized imaging, milling, and patterning, including strategies for uncommon or complex geometries, GUI interaction, and one-click operation in Essence™ Software

Where Tescan FIB-SEM Expert PI™ and VisualCoder™

make the difference

Routine laboratory automation

For quality assurance, repeated inspection, and daily imaging tasks, FIB-SEM Expert PI™ and VisualCoder™ help users replace manual operation with consistent automated routines. This improves efficiency and supports consistent results across operators and samples.

Accessible automation for non-programmers

VisualCoder™ lowers the entry barrier for users who need automation but do not have programming experience. Workflows can be assembled visually, tested quickly, and converted into Python scripts for later refinement.

Rapid SEM and FIB method development

Researchers can quickly prototype new imaging, milling, and nanopatterning strategies, including complex or uncommon geometries for advanced materials research and device prototyping. FIB-SEM Expert PI™ provides Python-level access for detailed control, while VisualCoder™ enables fast early-stage workflow creation without writing code.

Integrated remote microscope control

The API is built on a proven TCP/IP remote-control interface and can support microscope control from external or remotely controlled processes, helping laboratories connect SEM and FIB-SEM operation to broader automated workflows.
