Tescan is pleased to support the opening of a new laboratory at the Czech Technical University in Prague (ČVUT), Faculty of Civil Engineering. This milestone marks a significant advancement in materials science research and education in the region.
Equipped with the Tescan Plasma FIB-SEM microscope, the new facility is designed to accelerate discovery and foster innovation across civil engineering disciplines. Tescan's FIB-SEM systems offer capabilities beyond high-resolution imaging. These instruments are designed to facilitate the precise cutting, shaping, and analysis of structures at the nanoscale level. The laboratory will serve as a collaborative hub for researchers, educators, and industry experts, enabling deeper insights into material behavior and performance.
Celebrating Collaboration and Innovation
Three CTU faculties collaborated on the purchase of the system: the Faculty of Civil Engineering, the Faculty of Electrical Engineering, and the Faculty of Transportation Sciences. The opening ceremony was attended by leading figures in academia and industry, including:
- Prof. Jiří Máca and Prof. Jiří Němeček (ČVUT)
- Prof. Martin Böhm (ČVUT)
- Representatives from Tescan: Petr Klímek and Michal Klášterecký
The opening included two technical lectures from Tescan and a microscope demonstration.
Research teams in Civil Engineering, Electrical Engineering, and Transport Science described their planned applications, including cement hydration, internal porosity, microelectronic structures, transistors, porous foams, and magnetic nanoparticles.

Training for doctoral researchers is now underway as the new laboratory moves toward full research operation.
