On-demand WEBINAR | Engineering Diamond Material with Focused Ion Beam Implantation for Quantum Technologies

Diamond is no longer just a wide bandgap semiconductor. It is a quantum material platform.

In this research-focused webinar, Dr. Alexandre Tallaire (CNRS) explains how nitrogen-vacancy centers are engineered in diamond using focused ion beam implantation, and what it truly takes to achieve quantum-grade material: control over isotopic purity, defect density, strain, implantation depth, and graphitization thresholds.

From plasma-assisted CVD growth and ¹²C enrichment to hot implantation at 800 °C and helium co-implantation strategies, this session moves beyond theory into practical material engineering. You will see how implantation energy, dose, tilt angle, and in situ annealing directly influence NV formation, ODMR contrast, coherence time, and spatial localization.

The discussion also addresses key experimental questions:

  • How to suppress graphitization during high-dose implantation

  • How helium co-implantation increases NV conversion yield

  • How nanometric etching control defines NV depth

  • What limits low-energy implantation near the surface

  • How FIB enables patterned implantation and future photonic structures

If you work with quantum sensing, diamond, defect engineering, or nanoscale fabrication, this session provides insights you can apply directly in your own experiments.

This is not a general overview. It is a detailed look at the material physics and process decisions behind NV-based quantum devices.
