Tescan and Wirsam Host Successful Mineralogy Workshop for TIMA Users in South Africa

Johannesburg, October 17, 2025 - Tescan, in collaboration with its South African distributor Wirsam Scientific, successfully hosted a Mineralogy Workshop for TIMA users, uniting experts and professionals from leading mining, energy, and research organizations across Southern Africa.

Strengthening the TIMA User Community

The event, held at Wirsam Scientific’s Johannesburg headquarters, welcomed over 20 in-person participants from renowned institutions as well as several virtual attendees.

Tescan experts Marek Dosbaba and Lucia Savastano led the workshop, supported by Wirsam’s Vicky Wagner, Marco Perreira, and Snegugu Ziqubu, ensuring a collaborative and hands-on experience for all participants.

Practical Learning and Technical Insights

The agenda featured focused sessions on:

  • Automated mineralogy and workflow optimization
  • Latest TIMA features and classification schemes
  • Data pre-processing and reporting
  • Quantifying textural features in minerals (practical exercise)
  • Good practice and maintenance for improved reliability

Attendees engaged in technical discussions, shared experiences, and gained new insights into improving data quality and enhancing analytical workflows - critical for advancing mineral characterization and process optimization

Fostering Collaboration and Knowledge Exchange

Beyond the technical sessions, the event also served as a networking platform for regional users to connect, share challenges, and discuss upcoming developments in Tescan’s mineralogy portfolio. Participants appreciated the interactive Q&A moderated by the Tescan team and enjoyed informal moments, including short games and prizes that added a fun and engaging element to the workshop
